Self-realization and acceptance

Madeleine grows up in a home filled with secrets, occasional violence, and little affection. A shy and sensitive child, she feels at home in nature and in the world of books. As a young adult, she escapes to the Netherlands and settles down to raise a family and build a career. But her real journey has just begun. Her life story is told using poetic vignettes and commentary by archetypes from Nordic mythology and fairy tales, with the aim of inspiring others to understand their life’s journey and have the courage to make difficult choices.

James King says;

Passage of the Stork is a debut autobiography memoir that is sure to elicit an emotional response in most people who read it. It is an exceptional book and a truly insightful and moving account of a life, which should resonate with us all.

When I was a young man, I used to wonder how people knew what they wanted to do in life. I had no idea. I just thought you got a job, earned some money and had fun at weekends. I didn’t think much beyond that, until I reached the age of 24 and realised, I spent 40 hours every week boring myself to a slow death. And then I found that most other people were doing the same, and it was normal. The thought of being normal for another 40, 50 or 60 years shook me to the core. And I think that was when I started to search for who I was and what I wanted out of life.

So, it was a poignant reminder when I read ‘Passage of the Stork’. A book of such eloquence, in which Maddy describes the pain and confusion of youth, the battles of mid-life, and the constant search to find herself throughout her life. On her journey, she accesses a variety of methods, including ritual, meditation and dance. Her understanding deepens, acceptance and hope arrive with the wisdom of age, but the passage goes on even when we reach the end.
